Development of New Summer Design Years for London

speaker: Dr Jake Hacker, Director of Research, ARUP

Jake Hacker has broad interests in fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer and environmental processes. He trained as an applied mathematician and spent the early part of his career in academic research carrying out theoretical, numerical and laboratory studies in environmental fluid dynamics. He joined ARUP Research and Development in 2001 where he led a number of applied research projects for private and public sector clients on a diverse range of topics ranging from computational fluid dynamics modelling of the human circulatory system to dynamic thermal modelling of building performance under climate change. Since 2005 his work has focused increasingly on the interface between the natural and built environment and he is currently leading the Environmental Physics team’s pioneering work on the impact of climate change and microclimate in urban design. Jake holds a PhD in fluid dynamics from the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physic in the University of Cambridge and he is a chartered member of the Institute of Physics
