Lord Teverson is the spokesman in the Lords for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for Liberal Democrats. He was Member of the European Parliament for Cornwall and West Plymouth between 1994 and 1999, becoming one of the first two Liberal Democrats elected to the European Parliament. He was Chief Whip of the European Liberal Democrat Group from 1997 to 1999. In Europe he spoke on marine, transport and regional policy issues. He joined the Liberal Democrat group in the House of Lords in 2006, speaking on climate change and energy issues. He is now the Party’s Environment and DEFRA spokesman in the Lords. Robin is also a member of the Party’s Federal Executive and has previously chaired its national finance committee.
Robin spent the majority of his corporate career with National Freight/Exel plc, starting as a management trainee and becoming a director of Exel and Managing Director of one its national subsidiaries. His experience is across the freight, logistics and supply chain management sector. Earlier in his career he was also National Freight’s corporate economist. He managed his own consulting business, Rationale Limited, while moving into politics. From 2000 Robin has been in the financial services area, having been Chief Executive of two regional venture capital funds, Finance South West and Finance Cornwall.
He is currently non-executive director of KCS Tradeprint, Wessex Property Advisors where he is Chairman, and Devon & Cornwall Business Council. He is a Member of the Securities and Investments Institute (MSI).
